Lancer NPC Review Framework

This post is just an explanation of the various terms and methodology i'll be using going forward to review various Lancer TTRPG NPC mechs. This review process is intended to be forward facing, and represents my personal experience with these creatures. Beyond listening to me ramble, I intend to cover various considerations about NPC mechs that a GM might run into and hopefully allow them to avoid the same pitfalls I have.

To preface, I generally use standard Sitreps and on non-templated enemies use 1 optional, unless the enemy is specifically a focal point of a mission where I might instead provide 2 optionals. I also use Hexes rather than squares, so i'm not sure if that'll impact anything.

-----

Target

Will contain basic information such as the name and defined role of the NPC. I'll also add a short sentence defining its most major traits.

Range

The ideal range this NPC wishes to perform its role. The ranges listed will be Short, Medium, Long, and Support. Short means they wish to be within 5 hexes or even closer. Medium is around 10 hexes. Long is 15 or more. Support range means they perform their role best when close to allies, regardless of the distance between them and enemies.

Threat

Ranging from Low, Moderate, High, determines how immediately this target should be dealt with when it's on a battlemap. Low means they are a situational threat or rely on others to perform their role, Moderate means they're either a reliable but not overwhelming threat and High threat targets will devastate a group of PCs if left unchecked for too long.

Complexity

How much mental bandwidth the NPC is to manage for a GM. Ranges from Low, Moderate and High. Generally this refers to actual complexity of abilities or the amount of abilities they have to use a moment's notice.

Overview

Where I look at the strengths, weaknesses, and give a general idea of how the NPC performs their role.

Optionals

A more specific look at the optional features an NPC can have, and thoughts on how they can be used.

Recommended Sitreps

Several NPCs prefer various different mission types, and those will be listed here along with why that's the case.

Recommended Allies

Through the power of teamwork, some NPCs naturally pair well with others. These will be looked at here.

Other Considerations

If there's anything particularly notable for you to be aware of with this mech, i'll list it here.

Final Thoughts

Where i'll put my final thoughts not directly related to its role or function. Expect rambling. More rambling, I mean.
